Who we are.
We are Indioz Bravoz, a collective of Filipino-Canadian artists, visionaries, and cultural storytellers founded by Mara Cortez, Harvey Nichol, Moey Blanco and Mae Facundo. Inspired by the valorous spirit of Dr. Jose Rizal's "Los Indios Bravos", we embrace our filipino heritage with pride, using art as both expression and rebellion. Our work serves as a bridge, connecting the Filipino diaspora to the motherland while honoring the shared narratives that define us. Our mission is to weave a fabric of Filipino identity that transcends borders, honoring our roots while thriving in new soils. Art is our universal language, breaking barriers and uniting us through the human experience. Our filipino roots ground us-it is a wellspring of creativity that informs our work and connects us to the generations before and after us. We see strength in the diaspora, a convergence of diverse perspectives that enriches the global cultural landscape.
Through innovation, we integrate traditional Filipino art forms with contemporary mediums, ensuring our culture remains dynamic and relevant. We prioritize community over individuality, embracing the Bayanihan spirit of shared success, mentorship, and collective storytelling. We are committed to illuminating Filipino stories, cultivating spaces for expression, and fostering cultural exchange that strengthens ties between the diaspora and the motherland. By mentoring emerging artists and pushing the boundaries of Filipino art, we challenge and inspire ourselves and others to celebrate our multifaceted identity. We believe art has the power to preserve, connect, and transform. Through our collective work, we amplify voices, uplift narratives, and celebrate the resilience, beauty, and innovation of Filipino culture.
